Looking back with appreciation at Bustin' Loose! March 5-7, 2010

Proceeds from Bustin’ Loose! benefit the Lombardi Center's Breast Cancer Research Division of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the Georgetown University Medical Center and Hospital. They seek to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative basic and clinical research, patient care, community education and outreach, and the training of cancer specialists of the future. Lombardi is one of only 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the only one in the Washington, DC, area. What began as a small clinic treating cancer patients has grown into a state-of-the-art cancer center housing more than 240,000 square feet of clinic and research space.

About:   Live * Breathe * Dance

Pronunciation:   `liv `breeth dan(t)s

Function:   intransitive verb

  a. State of mind required to overcome any hardship.

Co-founders Jan Forman & Cheryl Stern, two independent entrepreneurs, found an immediate common denominator when they met 3 years ago. In addition to having similar business models as luxury goods retailers for specialty events, they also identified on a more personal level both being touched in their own way by breast cancer. Jan is a survivor and Cheryl gave support to her sister during her long term battle with the disease. This became the inspiration for their partnership as a way to raise funds for breast cancer research, awareness and education.

Most of the hundreds of events in which they have participated over the years as boutique style vendors are charity driven with a percentage of sales going to a designated cause. It was this formula that inspired them and made them realize they could make a bigger impact. It made perfect sense that this was the time to dedicate their efforts toward breast cancer related causes. Their goal is to partner with a different deserving charity for each event that will be chosen for its ability to benefit the greatest number of people and promote health awareness by its outreach. No one ever thinks it can happen to them, but who doesn't know someone who has been affected by it?

These concepts are the energy behind Live * Breathe * Dance and the Bustin' Loose! event... a benefit shopping boutique to raise health awareness.
